Finasteride is classified as an anti-androgen medication and works by inhibiting the type II 5 alpha-reductase which stops the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in follicles. It works for 9/10 men, however, in some patients, it may not be effective for these patients we may consider prescribing topical Dutasteride. We have successfully treated several patients using this approach we understand hair science and we got your back.
Finasteride and Dutasteride are from the same family of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. However, in patients where Finasteride has been ineffective Dutasteride may be a great alternative.
They both work by blocking the enzyme 5α-Reductase, which converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Dutasteride is just a stronger DHT blocker.
